Conspiracy Theories

False Sense of Security

For a few weeks now, I've been planning to post something about the worthless yet annoying security procedures in LRT, MRT stations and all of the shopping malls.

Recently, several walk in metal detectors were installed in Glorietta. Amusingly enough, the metal detectors were beeping almost all the time, to the point that the security guards are just ignoring them. Not to mention the improper use of those hand-held metal detectors. Most security personnel use them as a stick to poke through bags. What an expensive BBQ stick.

Well, just poking through someone's bag doesn't really work at all. I don't think they even have any idea what they are trying to look for. It only causes unnecessary delay and extreme annoyance to most passengers or shoppers. Plus the fact that bombs are not made out of metals.

False sense of security, as I call it.

Until now, I still could not believe that a bomb did explode yesterday despite of all the attempts to establish this false sense of security. This should be an eye-opener for the mall owners, our police force and normal people as well.

Conspiracy Theories

Upon learning that there's a possibility that it was a bomb. I immediately thought of theories behind this gruesome event. If this was done by real terrorists, they would have chosen a better target, Glorietta 4 perhaps, where most people would be having their lunch. Or maybe they just didn't want to kill too many people.

Like some people would think, this event might just be a diversionary tactic of the current administration, to shift the issues from "Malacañang Cash Gifts" and impeachment to something more serious like national security or terrorism.

Another one would be, this might have been planned by anti-administration groups to destabilize the government. Very similar to the Rizal Day bombings during Erap's administration, which ultimately lead to the fall of Erap's presidency. Some groups have claimed that it was orchestrated by GMA's camp. And a little over a decade ago, FVR used the same methods to control Cory's administration as well.

Whoever did this and for whatever reason, we will probably know in the coming days or in the coming months. Who knows, we might already be seeing the face of the mastermind on the news.

I don't understand why people like these exist in this world. Regardless of the motive, harming innocent people is just plain wrong and there is no excuse for something like this.

I agree that although establishments want to give people a sense of security, it's all a big joke. Think about it, if these people were smart enough to be able to pull something as catastrophic as this, wouldn't they be smart enough to figure out how to trick the system and do it all over again? Like you said, bombs aren't necessarily made of easy-to-detect metals. What's the point of "inspecting" if you're not going to do it properly? Very frustrating indeed!
